On Saturday, December 9, 1967, Lynda Bird Johnson married Marine Corps Captain Charles Robb. It was a private White House wedding, but there was live television coverage of the event. Our black and white T.V. didn’t do justice to the photos, but it was a spectacle not to be missed.
Privately, I wondered how a White House military “social” aide could hook up with the President’s daughter. There was also the question of the younger daughter Luci Baines, who had married an enlisted Air Force National Guardsman the year before (she had just turned 19). There were no answers to my thoughts on this subject . . . only more questions. How lucky was I to have met Jenny?
Little did I know that Captain Charles Robb and I would cross paths in Vietnam.
I am a retired restaurant manager. My wife Jenny and I have been married for 50 years, have three grown children and two teen grand kids.
