The document below is a copy of my original orders to Vietnam. The intention of this blog is to “Replay” the experience . . . 50 years later. As you can see, these orders were done on a typewriter. There were no computers or even calculators. Military acronyms were used as shorthand (code) and these documents were hard to understand.
Here’s what it says: Report to Camp Pendleton on December 20, 1967 for further transfer to duty with Fleet Marine Force Pacific, Western Pacific Ground Forces.
Although the date of the document is 20 October 1967, I did not receive it until October 31 (Halloween).
I am a retired restaurant manager. My wife Jenny and I have been married for 50 years, have three grown children and two teen grand kids.
